Veg Out
21 May 2009

We're going Veg Crazy for a while here - why not join us?

To celebrate the end of moat cleaning fortnight we've postponed our plans for Duck Island merchandise and turned our thoughts to Vegetables. Our mission at TWTT is to ‘revitalise the earth’ and nothing sums that up more than growing your own fruit and vegetables.

There’s not much that is more exciting than the thrill of tasting food that you’ve grown yourself. A kitchen garden or potager brings together all our loves; food, nature, design and gardening with a purpose. It can be a key part of a landscape feature (Rosemary Verey's at Barnsley House being our all time favourite), but most of all it's a source of food; vegetables; herbs; fruit and of course flowers (for cutting, organic pest control or just because they look pretty).
We’ll be running loads of ideas and offers to help you on the way including a special menu at our neighbours Restaurant Amarone.
Here's just some of the offers you can enjoy:

We‘ve got a great wide range of grow your own ideas at TWTT . Every item belongs in a category but if you are new to gardening try looking at some inspirational books or DVD’s first to start you off. Then look for some Big Tools
and Small Hand Tools to help you prepare the ground and importantly some Seeds to plant. We only stock Italian seeds that are chosen only on the grounds of taste. In our view, if you grow your own, this has to be the prime consideration. To get your seeds off to the best start and particularly out of season, you might consider a little help. We all needed a little help in our early days and seeds are no different
For maximum style, try some Raised Beds
to plant your seeds or seedlings in. In addition to looking great, they serve a real practical purpose. The quality of your growing medium (soil usually) can be enhanced by Compost which is easily obtained by recycling garden and household waste. When you’ve sown your seed or planted out your seedlings, keeping track of them in a well laid out vegetable patch is vital (we’ve a section on tying and labelling) as is Watering and supporting some plants as they grow upwards.

Whether in the kitchen garden or further afield, gardeners who shop at The Worm that Turned are consistently the best dressed and best protected gardeners. See our Gloves & Footwear and Aprons & Kneelers sections to see why style needn’t stop at the back door.
Finally to keep things in good order we’ve a section on things to help Tidy and when you’re crops are ready to pick or pull we’ve a section devoted to the Harvest
