Mullan Lighting Glass Finish Tolerances

Glass Quality

Every glass shade we offer is handcrafted and carefully checked by Mullan before it reaches you. Because each piece is made by hand, subtle variations and small surface marks can naturally occur. These details are part of the making process and are considered within the expected character of handmade glass.

The table below outlines the types of features you might see in artisanal glass and clarifies which are considered acceptable and which are not.

Please note that minor variations are a natural part of handmade glass and are acceptable within the following limits:

Feature Acceptable Standard
Air bubbles Less than 4mm in diameter, with no more than four per 10 cm² area
Symmetry / oval shape Acceptable if overall balance of the fixture is maintained
Neck level Acceptable if the glass angle is less than 5°
Chips on edges Up to 2mm depth; deeper around the neck only
Scratches / cracks Acceptable if they don’t compromise strength and aren’t visible from 1 metre
Smudges / trails Acceptable if not noticeable from 1 metre
Wall thickness Variation less than 4mm
